Amtrak is proposing a $7 billion upgrade to Union Station, intended to triple passenger capacity and transform it into a high-speed rail hub facilitated by a U$1.5 billion and 3 million ft2 complex of offices, residential towers and a hotel by development. The site will be re-named to honour Union Station's original architect Daniel Burnham.
