“Designer Karim Rashid is know mostly for his frighteningly colorful interiors, but he has also been unleashing some eye-popping exteriors onto New York City with the help of developer HAP Investments.
HAP has tapped Rashid to design a "diamond signature" building in East Harlem, a checkered-purple-Tetris building on West 187th, and, most recently, this eight-story, 20-unit stack of what looks like plastic storage bins at 329 Pleasant Avenue, also in East Harlem.
Aesthetically, the eight-story building presents a bright contrast to its pre-war surrounds, with the pink and blue balconies offering a decided departure from the neighborhood vernacular. While the disruption of the street-wall is unfortunate, East Harlem has bigger issues that must be dealt with, and developing more infill housing takes precedence over perfect design.” YIMBY
